Bankole

Former speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole’s current travails yesterday attracted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State urging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) not to make him a scapegoat.

The PDP Elders Council under the leadership of Alhaji Sule Onabiyi, after a meeting in Abeokuta, the state capital, said Bankole should be given fair treatment until he was proven guilty of the allegations levelled against him.

In a press statement released, the council said as much as it would not hinder the anti-graft agency from doing its constitutional responsibilities, “the former speaker should be accorded all the courtesies and fundamental human rights of a citizen especially given his high office.
“We elders and members of the PDP in Ogun State note the current travail of our son and former speaker, House of Representatives, Sabur Oladimeji Bankole and call for fair treatment.
“We recognise the need for the anti-graft agency to do their assignments but we want to plead that the former speaker be deemed innocent until proven guilty.’’

While saying that all human beings were equal before the law, the council noted: “We hope our son is not being used as a scapegoat in this case.’’
